How to Run a Cricket Tournament on CricLive: From Setup to Trophy

Q: Can players find my tournament on CricLive?

CricLive has a Tournaments page where people can browse events and filter by status, location, date range and ball type. You can also share your tournament with a QR code.

A practical guide to planning your format, setting up the event on CricLive, scoring match days and finishing with a verified final result.

To run a cricket tournament on CricLive, settle your format and rules first, then create the tournament with its name, dates and details, confirm teams and fixtures, score every match and verify each result before you update standings.

CricLive is a free cricket scoring app for local cricket, and its tournament tools cover hosting, setup and sharing. It looks after the digital side of the event. You still need a workable format, a ground, officials and clear playing conditions.

The short version

Plan: choose the format, overs and rules.

Set up: add the name, logo, banner, dates and details.

Run: score every match and check each scorecard.

Finish: confirm standings, then play the final.

Plan the Tournament Before You Set It Up

Start by deciding what kind of event you are running: a weekend knockout, a club league or a longer local tournament. The format should fit your number of teams, your ground time and your budget.

Choose a format

Round robin, groups followed by knockouts, or a straight knockout.

Set match conditions

Overs per innings, squad size, eligibility and any local variations.

Reserve the ground

Confirm availability, pitch preparation, equipment and a wet-weather plan.

Assign responsibilities

Name who handles fixtures, umpires, scoring, team messages and disputes.

How many matches will you need?

In a single round robin every team plays every other team once, so the number of matches is teams × (teams − 1) ÷ 2. A single-elimination knockout needs one match fewer than the number of teams, because each match removes one team.

Teams	Round robin (played once)	Knockout
4	6 matches	3 matches
6	15 matches	5 matches
8	28 matches	7 matches

Organiser tip

Count your matches before you pick a format. If 28 round-robin matches won't fit your available days and daylight, a group stage plus knockouts is often the practical answer. Write the rules down and share them with every captain, because teams may not use the same local rules.

Set Up Your Tournament on CricLive

CricLive supports tournament setup with a logo, banner, dates and details, and lets you share the event with a QR code so players can find and join it. A CricLive tournament page also shows details such as the ground, city, ball type, pitch type, match type and category, so decide these before you publish. Exact labels and steps can change between app versions, so follow the current in-app flow.

Prepare the tournament identity

Pick a clear name and, if ready, add your logo and banner. Use the same name on posters and team messages.
Enter dates and details

Add the confirmed schedule, ground, city and the key information players need. Check every date before you share.
Review, then share

Proofread the name, dates, ground and rules. When it is ready, share the tournament through the available sharing option or its QR code.

Players can browse events on the CricLive tournaments page, which lets them filter by status, location, date range and ball type, tennis or leather. A complete, accurate listing makes your event easier to find.

Confirm Teams, Fixtures and Match Officials

Before the first ball, every team should know when and where it plays. Prepare a fixture list with the match number, start time, ground, the two teams and the person responsible for scoring.

Confirm	Why it matters
Team and player eligibility	Prevents last-minute disputes about who can play.
Fixture and reporting time	Keeps teams ready and the schedule moving.
Umpire and scorer	Makes decisions and score-recording duties clear.
Points and tie-break rules	Explains how standings and qualification are decided.
Rain or delay procedure	Gives every team the same process when conditions change.

For a league stage, decide how points are awarded and how tied teams are separated before play starts. Many leagues give 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie or no result, but your rules may differ, so publish yours. If net run rate is a tie-break, state exactly how it will be calculated. Our guide to net run rate in cricket explains the formula.

Match Day: Scoring and Keeping Records Accurate

On match day, confirm the two teams, the format, the scorer and the start time. CricLive's ball-by-ball scoring and digital scorecards record each delivery, including runs, wickets, wides and no-balls, and show batting, bowling and partnership figures. If your scorer is new, our beginner's guide on how to score a cricket match online is a good place to start.

Start the correct match and check both teams before scoring begins.
Record each delivery carefully, including extras and wickets.
Check the innings total against the scorecard at the end of each innings.
Agree any correction with the umpires and captains straight away.
Tell affected teams about delays, new start times or ground changes.

Digital scoring makes match information easier to follow, but it does not replace the scorer's duty to enter events accurately or the umpires' duty to confirm decisions.

Track Results and Prepare for the Final

After each match, confirm the result before you touch the standings. CricLive tournament pages include sections such as Matches, Leaderboard, Points Table, Teams and Stats. Check how the standings are produced for your event, and compare them with the rules you published before you announce semi-finalists or finalists.

Before the final, reconfirm the ground, start time, officials, team lists and scorer. Prepare the awards in advance and decide who presents them. After the match, confirm the final scorecard and announce the winner together with the result, not just a photo of the trophy.

Tournament organiser checklist

Tournament name, dates, ground and format confirmed
Rules, points system and tie-break procedure shared with every team
Teams, fixtures, umpires and scorers confirmed
Result verification assigned for every match
Final-day schedule, awards and trophy presentation arranged

Formats, points systems and playing conditions vary by competition. Publish the rules for your event and confirm them with participants before play begins.
